Book Review - The Jesus Book by Stephen Elkins

This is a good little book. "The Jesus Book" by Stephen Elkins is a compact book of 96 pages with a sturdy cover and good illustrations. It comes with a CD of songs.

It says on the cover that it is "the ultimate who, what, when, where and why book." It does manage to answer practically any question a young child may have about the life and basic teachings of Jesus. Each subject is concisely covered in about one page with illustrations and biblical references.

I would say that it could easily be read by a young reader without any difficulty although older children would be better able to understand the text as written. The content of the book is well set out, helped along by the colorful illustrations.

The songs on the CD would probably be enjoyed more by younger children.

Overall, this is an enjoyable look at Jesus.

Book Review - Plan B What Do You Do When God Doesn’t Show Up the Way You Thought He Would? By Pete Wilson Published by Thomas Nelson

I don't know about you but this last year has not gone exactly as I thought it would or how I would have liked it to. It is during these difficult times that you try to figure out what is going on; the answers are not always forthcoming. When I was given the opportunity to read and review this book for Booksneeze.com, I jumped at the chance hoping it might help me to understand why God does things the way He does.

Pete Wilson uses real life stories of disappointments and tragedy along with stories of biblical heroes such as David, Joseph, and Ruth to help readers face their own situations, which can appear overwhelming. Through them he tries to show us that God is working to help us surrender our plans and to receive His.

I found this to be a practical book for anyone who is stuck in an unexpected situation, wondering if God is still at work and to help them to see that God still loves them, even when it might seem hard to see.

I don’t know about you but I am always looking for a good book to get my nose in to; I have read quite a few of Max Lucado’s previous books so when I found out he had written a new one called ‘Fearless’ I was eager to get hold of a copy. The sub-heading is ‘Imagine Your Life Without Fear’ which to me sounded like a great idea!

Once again Max uses his talent for storytelling and his ability to make scripture truth seem new and relevent to show us that what ever it is that we fear, there is a good God-given reason why we don't need to. I have been a Christian for quite a few years and have recently done a 'Freedom in Christ' course but this book helped to put in to words what I already knew but wasn't putting in to practice. As Max Lucado writes "Fear may fill our world, but it doesn't have to fill our hearts". After reading this book I know that the way I look at life and situations will be different. I would recommend that everyone should read this book and I believe that it will make a difference to you too.
